If the powers that be have decided that pro-Govt Chief Justice of Pakistan Kazi Faiz Essa and independent PTI-inclined senior-most judge Mansur Ali Shah cannot continue after October 25, Justice Yahya Afridi seems like a good choice. Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Mansur Ali Shah, and Justice Athar Minallah belonged to the same self-run law firm. All of them are respected and independent-minded judges. If the decision is for Justice Yahya Afridi to be the next Chief Justice of Pakistan, I am fine with that. Let’s move on. I’m confident that with Justice Yahya Afridi as the Chief Justice of Pakistan, the judiciary in Pakistan will not be worse off.
